GT-IMAV - Segunda Fase

Work Group for Instrumentation and Monitoring of Video Applications - Second Phase

Projections point out that video content will be reliable for 90% of all network traffic up to the end of this decade. Taking into account the high cost of media production, and mainly the high consumption of network resources made by applications exploring it, it is of great importance to monitor such use, by preventing from having the wrong or distorted view of this consumption.

In this scenario, it is necessary to develop mechanisms and tools that allow to have a clear view concerning the effectiveness of video consumption, as well as measuring viewer engagement. What kind of tools can be developed in order to estimate such consumption? What should be measured, that is, which are the parameters and metrics to be used and how to get them so that we can measure the effectiveness of use of video applications?

In this context, the first phase of the project focused at the development of a prototype that could supply the given scenario. At the second phase the purpose is to evolve and implement this prototype as a pilot, integrating into an existing RNP service called Video@RNP. Furthermore, it proposes the inclusion of 3D video, for evaluation of its impact at perception and information absorption, and includes the continuity of verification of the use of these tools at learning environment.
